Free Virtual Hairstyles Online: a Guide to Free Hair Styler Websites, Generators and Studios

New hairstyles can often be a bit intimidating. Those hairstyles that look great on a supermodel, may not work for you. So why not try out a free virtual hairstyle online to see exactly how that new hairstyle will look on you before you go to the hair salon?

With that in mind, here are a number of free virtual hair styler websites, free hairstyle generators and free hairstyle studios that can create a virtual makeover before you actually go to cut and style your hair. The best thing about free virtual hairstyles online is that if you don't like style, you don't have to wait for your hair to grow back out.

Websites for Free Virtual Hairstyles Online

Please note: some of these websites require a simple registration but are still free to use.

Beauty Riot Online Virtual Makeover

This website allows you to try out celebrity hairstyles as well as adjust your haircolor and combine these with customized makeup options including eyeliner width, eyeshadow style and placement and lipliner width. You can also email your new virtual look to friends to get their input. And of course, it's free.

iVillage Makeover-o-matic

The Makeover-o-matic at iVillage allows you to try virtual hairstyles and brand-name cosmetics with one of their 12 virtual model photos or upload your own picture and create a whole new you. You can create your own "Look Book" and name your look. Sharing your new virtual hairstyle is simple as well.

This one is fun and easy to use, with different options for contacts, sunglasses, eyeware, hats and more. To use some of the more advanced features, you'll be prompted to register. To play with the basic styles and cosmetics, no registration is required.

Not so Free Virtual Hairstyler Website Tips

While some sites offer virtual makeovers and virtual hairstyles for free, most hairstyler websites only offer demo versions for free. Read the explanations carefully as you look at a site. One site I reviewed offered free advice, free hairstyle pictures, free makeover tips and loads of other 'free' stuff, but the one thing I wanted -- the virtual hairstyler was not free. Other sites, like Mary Kay, offered a free virtual makeover studio, but the options were extremely limited and contained (obviously) only Mary Kay products. So before you waste your time uploading a picture into a supposedly free hairstyle website, make sure you check the fine print to ensure that the virtual hairstyler itself is actually free.
